Why you should always do it NOW!!!
As a freelancer, I plan only so much of my day. Because people use me to meet deadlines that they themselves, or their in-house staff can’t meant, I am often faced with horrific quick-turn-around type deadlines. I actually get a kick out of this type of work.
But, if one does this type of work, it is very important to clear the decks every night. There has often been times when Ih ave not, when I have looked at my work load and said, oh, I am only working on that one job, and that should be one by the afternoon, so I will have plenty of time to work on it in the morning. This is, assuming, that no new work comes in that bumps into it.
I mentioned a couple of days ago that to be considered an independent contractor you have to prove that no one tells you when to do things, or what order you do them in, or what time yo work on them. This is true, and I do decide, but that is part of why, if I have a job, I try to do it no, so that I don’t have to worry about trying to get it done later, when other jobs are screaming to get done.
I know that this is a hard lesson for some, including my daughter, who says, but this isn’t due until Friday, which should I do it on Monday. I keep telling her it is bet to get it out of the way early so you don’t have to worry about it later, when other things come up, which they always do.
She still hasn’t learned this lesson, although she runs into it every week. Me, I have long since learned it, which is why you will find me working late many nights, just so that I can be ready for what ever comes in.
