Why in my day…

People ask me what I took at College, and has it been much use?

The funniest thing I learned, looking back, was learning to count headlines. Back in the pre-desktop-publishing day, we had to count out our headlines for the newspaper, or else, when it was printed out at the print shop, it wouldn’t be the right size. We had to count letters that were “m-spaces” and “n-spaces” and other such fun things.

Now we just scale type and make it fit. It is all to simple.

I have old newsletters from the 80s that I have saved. Great content (they are about Dr. Who), but oh, how bad they look.

Althought, actually when I joke about it now, I say that back in my day we carved letters out of stone.
