How to get more time to work (or how to get a life)

I have discovered, this last weekend, how to get more time to work on all my projects, that always happen in the last two weeks of the month. It always happens about then, because people realize that the month is coming to an end, and they need to have the work done, and they know that I’ll do it, as they run around in a panic. One such project, which the client has know about about for at least a week, came through last week, on Thursday to be exact, and the client wanted to see it by Monday.

Good-bye to the weekend.

So, what did I do to gain all that time, to do all that work? I sent my kid away with my partner for the week. The house and office is quiet. I can stay up until 1am and work without interruption.

But, on the other hand, this is what I used to do before I had a kid. I used to stay at work late, and get to work early. I had no life. Once I had a kid, I had to take breaks, eat dinner, go to bed at a half-way decent hour, get enough sleep. True, it made it harder to get my work done, but I was getting enough sleep and wasn’t so stiff and tired all the time.

So, I guess the answer is balance. Work when you can, but take breaks.
